Ann ParishChair of Governors
Ann Parish
Hello, my name is Ann Parish and I joined Westfield Primary School Governing Board in November 2019, after retiring from a very rewarding, twenty five year teaching career.
I began my teaching career in Queens Park, working for thirteen years as a class teacher and then Deputy Headteacher at Queens Park Lower School. I ran the school football team there and then went on to form Q.P.Real Football Club. We joined the Bedfordshire junior football league and achieved great success!
I was the appointed to the post of Headteacher at Shackleton Primary School in Bedford and enjoyed twelve years working with the children, staff and school community there.
I have now returned to Queens Park joining the Westfield Primary School governing board in November 2019, becoming Chair of Governors in September this year.
I am passionate about education and the development of the whole child and believe children thrive in an environment where they feel happy, safe, valued and respected. I am committed to working hard in support of our Headteacher and her staff team in order to provide the best learning journey for all our children.
I have two children of my own and six grandchildren, who are all unique in their own way and I love spending time with them. It's such a pleasure watching them as they learn and develop.
In my spare time I like going to the theatre, reading - especially anything historical and football. I am a lifelong Liverpool FC supporter!
I look forward to meeting you at Westfield Primary School and working together with you in the future.

My experience at Westfield extends back over 25 Years. I chose to become a Governor here on the recommendation of people who recognised the Importance of Westfield School in Queens Park and the opportunities that it developed for the children, their futures to the benefit of them their families the local and wider community. I recognise this ongoing status that the school enjoys because of the dedication of its staff and commend the 'Westfield way' and this school community to you.
Each child is at the centre of Westfield and their safety, enjoyment and wellbeing is paramount to their Education and achievement for all. My life is richer for playing a small part in their school journey and the life of the School. I have held many roles on the Governing Board and I am committed to keeping up with current policy and best practice in Education.
I trained as a Nurse and worked in the NHS for ten years prior to moving to Bedford to become a Registered Care Manager. I worked in this capacity in the Charity Sector for almost 30 Years and continue to work as a carer, something that enables me to have some understanding of the different needs that people have. I am a Trustee/Director of a local Charity that develops employment, educational and recreational opportunities for Adults who have Learning Disabilities.
I sought to develop my experience of Education when my Children were at School and this interest continues as a Grand Parent.

I moved to Bedfordshire in 1972 to begin a career in teaching. I taught in a number of schools before eventually becoming a headteacher in the south of the county. I then worked as a consultant visiting schools, organising conferences and training events while also undertaking research that led to being awarded a doctorate in Education About ten years ago I was invited to become a governor at Westfield School. I am pleased to have been given an opportunity to be involved in the development of the school and seeing the huge range of activities and learning experiences that the school has to offer the children.
I am passionate about education and learning and feel strongly that it is a life long process. Learning should be and enjoyable process, the seeds of which are planted both at school and in the home, with parents and teachers encouraging and supporting the children to achieve their potential.
